According to the American Society for Positive Care of Children, there are about 7.78 million reports of child abuse, and 89% of children are abused by both parents. In 2023, it is estimated that 558,899 cases of child abuse were first incidents of child abuse or neglect. Every child deserves a loving environment and caring parents. The number of foster children in the system is higher than most would think. According to the U.S. Department of Education, there are approximately 400,000 children in the foster system currently, and approximately 20,000 children age out of the system each year. When a foster child ages out, they then lose the support of the foster system, and they're essentially left on their own. Foster children often experience high mobility, meaning that they are moved from foster home to foster home. Without a reliable, safe guardian, many foster children experience problems in life and academics.
